It is
undeniable that technology had advance in crazy ways the last years with the
main purpose to make our life easier, safer and better.
In
medicine, for example, new surgical materials and devices allow patients have
difficult surgeries in an easy and safe way. Therefore this technology has been
safe a lot of lives.
As
pharmaceutical chemistries, this technology directly affects us although it’s
better to say that some of them, like nanoparticles, benefit us because they
arrived to improve the way to deliver a drug.
Nanoparticles
allow to get more specific receptors, reduce adverse effects and to get a
better pharmacological effect, which means that patients will have a better
treatment and they could increase their life expectancy.
This tech also
allows developing new therapeutic targets, like the treatment of different kind
of cancer. For example, last year, a scientific team from this faculty showed a
research where they incorporated gold nanoparticles in microgels to obtain
spatial and temporal control drug release, to prevent cancer recurrent and tumor
metastasis. It sounds amazing, doesn’t
it?
Maybe in
future, nanoparticles will be present in all drugs and we could eradicate some
diseases or we could finally treat those “strange diseases”.
Probably at
begging this new drugs won’t be cheap, but I believe nanoparticles are
pharmacology’s future. What do you think?
